Ancient and Modern Tattooing
About Me
My name is Dion Kaszas and I have been tattooing since 2009. My work has appeared in Skin Deep Magazine, The World Atlas of Tattoo, Tattoo Traditions of Native North America By Lars Krutak and most recently the television series Skindigenous which premiered in 2018 on the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network.
I have been an invited artist at international tattoo festivals in Spain, New Zealand and across Canada. I have a very diverse portfolio which stems from beginning my career in a small town street shop. My machine work includes watercolor, dot work, fine line ornamental, cover-ups, black work, tribal, black and grey and formline.
I also tattoo using the traditional hand tattooing methods of my ancestors the Nlaka'pamux, these include skin stitching and hand poke.
Location and Appointment Information
I live and work in the Annapolis Valley which is located in Nova Scotia, Canada. I work by appointment only. If you are looking for quality and precision tattooing then you won't be disappointed.
I am only taking a few clients each month on weekends and the occasional evening. If you would like to get a tattoo done by me please send a detailed email including the idea of the project you would like to start, placement, any references you may have, style, and I will get back to you with an indication of whether it is a project we can collaborate on.
To book an appointment email dkaszas@hotmail.com or you can fill out the contact form at the bottom of this page.
I encourage you to contact me with even the most difficult project, I am especially interested in starting a few bigger projects.

acknowledgments
I am thankful for the mentorship I have received through my friend and colleague Carla Romaniuk who have been tattooing for over 20 years and works out of Vertigo Tattoos in Salmon Arm BC, her cover-up work is one of the best in the country.
I also have to acknowledge the mentorship I have received through my good friend Dean Hunt who has shared his knowledge of formline design work. Dean is an amazing Heiltsuk craver, silver engraver, and all around artist. Check out his website. I have a few formline projects on the go but once these are complete I will no longer be offering formline as one of the design styles as part of my tattooing portfolio. I have made this decision to stand in solidarity with my friends and colleagues from the Northwest Coast.
Many of the publications I have been featured in have been due to the work of my friend and colleague Lars Krutak. Thank you Lars for your support. Go check out his website to purchase one the amazing books he has authored.

This gallery contains tattoos done by traditional hand techniques, including skin stitch and hand poke. If you are interested in getting a traditional tattoo don't hesitate to contact me and we will get working on it. Some of the distinctive differences with hand tattooing methods include less trauma to the skin, which means less healing time. It does take more time but as you can see the results are amazing. If you are an Indigenous person who is working on reviving your tattooing tradition and would like to get a traditional tattoo using either of these methods I am always excited to help others in embodying their culture on their skin.
